Applied Research by Lorestan University Faculty Member Serves to Advance the Country's Oil Industry
Apr 30, 2026
The virtual seminar on the final report of the sabbatical period in industry, by a faculty member of the Faculty of Engineering, Lorestan University, entitled "Familiarity with the Performance and Examination of Sucker Rod Pumps (SRP)" was held on Tuesday, April 28, 1405.
According to the Public Relations of Lorestan University, this research was conducted by Dr. Mohammadmehdi Tafarroj, a faculty member of the Mechanical and Polymer Engineering Department of Lorestan University, with the client being the Farazanovin Andish Arvand Ahvaz Company.
It should be noted that: at the beginning of the life of most oil wells, the fluid within the well flows to the surface without any problems (they are commonly referred to as "flowing wells"), but after a while, the spontaneous flow of the well stops and the well, in technical terms, "dies."
One of the most important and common methods of reviving dead wells, through which more than 80% of well revitalization is currently carried out, is the use of sucker rod pumps.
Therefore, a precise understanding of the operating mechanism and structure of these pumps can play a significant role in their design and performance optimization.
In the mentioned seminar, while outlining the activities carried out during the period of interaction with the community and industry, various methods of artificial lifting of the fluid within the well were introduced, and then complete explanations were provided regarding the structure, components, and operating method of sucker rod pumps.
Also, the types of these pumps were introduced, and the advantages and disadvantages of using each of them were discussed.
Finally, a "design guide" has been prepared and compiled for some of the most important components of these pumps.
